Texas Roadhouse II

We’re back from temporary steak hiatus!  You can only not eat steak for so long.  So to ease back into the routine, we banked on the reliability of Texas Roadhouse.  It still amazes me how busy this place is all the time.  But in the coming weeks, I’m going to do my best to get away from mainly chain restaurants, which I feel we’ve covered pretty well, and uncover the local gems of steak in Lafayette.  For now, on to the show.

Outback Steakhouse II

Are you in the mood for a Bloomin’ Onion?!  Well I am.  So we’re off to Outback.  At the restaurant, we spot this on the menu:

That’s actually pretty impressive.  If you can’t see the very top of the award, it says “2011 National Chains Survey.“  So of all the chain restaurants/steakhouses, Outback has been declared the best three years running.  We’ll see if this meal lives up to the hype.

Ground Pati

I’ve been to Ground Pati many times through the years.  Pretty good burgers, decently priced.  It’s an easy-going meal.  Though I’ve had mixed experiences with the steak.  Again, this is one of those restaurants that isn’t saying, “Hey, come here for our steak.”  But remember my rule, if you’re gonna have steak on the menu, it should be a good steak.  So how was it this time?

Tsunami

If you want good steak, sometimes you can’t be afraid to open the wallet a little bit.  We went to Tsunami in downtown Lafayette.  I had been once before, but it’s been a long time.  Mainly an upscale sushi restaurant, there are plenty of other options and drinks.

Copeland's II

I returned to Copeland’s as quality control, checking if the great steaks we had the first time could be duplicated.

Applebee's

We’re eatin’ good in the neighborhood today.  I haven’t been to Applebee’s in several years.  And I’m pretty sure I went to one out of town, not the one here in Lafayette.  Is a casual dining establishment known for cheap menu offerings the place to go for steak?  Conventional wisdom would say “No”, but lets investigate.

Copeland's

We decided to go on over to Copeland’s.  It had been on our list for a while, but we kept passing it up.  No idea why.  So we fixed that and went for lunch.  It should be noted, their lunch steak offerings are the exact same as the dinner menu steaks.  That’s a huge plus in my book.  All restaurants should operate like that.

If you read the menu, Copeland’s says about their steaks “At Copeland’s, we use only the finest hand-selected, USDA approved, 100% corn-fed Midwestern beef that has been naturally aged 28 days – ensuring a perfectly flavorful steak each and every time.”  Well that certainly sounds good to me.
